The Diagnostic Imaging Department at BRMC provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic testing and treatment using the latest in modern equipment and staff expertise to permit non-invasive viewing of soft tissue, brain waves, blood vessels, and the skeletal system. In addition to traditional x-rays, diagnostic imaging techniques include ultrasound, mammography, CT scans, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and bone densitometry.
PACS (Picture Archiving Communications System) Technology
Bedford Regional Medical Center is proud to use PACS, a patient record system that digitally acquires, stores and retrieves diagnostic images from:
ï CT
ï MR
ï X-ray
ï Ultrasound
ï Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT
ï Mammography
PACS allows us to digitize medical images and process them for reading by a radiologist, in a fraction of the time it takes to process film. These images can be viewed by radiologists from a PACS workstation anywhere in the hospital. Additionally, patient images and radiologistís reports can securely be distributed on-demand through the Internet for referring physicians to review.
PACS is comprised of a combination of workstations, servers, and online and offline storage systems networked together and integrated into the hospitalís infrastructure. The servers and
storage systems link the images to the patient data and provide long-term secure storage
and archiving.
Referring physicians can access these images and the radiologistsí reports over the web. No longer do patients have to wait for films to be manually passed through the diagnostic process; diagnosis can be delivered faster and patient care can be started sooner.
