Respiratory Care is a health care occupation comprised of practitioners who, under physician's supervision, are trained to actively participate in the care of patients, especially the method of treatment of cardiopulmonary function.
The practice of respiratory care encompasses activities in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, administration and education. BRMC's Department of Respiratory Care provides services to Adult and Pediatric patients in three service areas: clinical, diagnostic and medical team service.
Clinical Service Clinical Service provides mechanical ventilation (conventional, non-invasive and frequency), continuous positive airway pressure, airway management, delivery of aero medications, bronchopulmonary hygiene, arterial blood gas sampling, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and specialty medical gas administration, patient consultation, internal and external transports, home care discharge planning and educate other clinical aspects of respiratory care.
Diagnostic ServiceDiagnostic Service provides diagnostic services, including pulmonary function, testing, medicated aerosol delivery, arterial blood gas analysis and other diagnostic respiratory care.
ìMedical Team Approachî Service
The staff of BRMC provide daily patient assessment for patients with a team approach to treatment. Respiratory staff measure the efficiency of cardiovascular and pulmonary systems. Respiratory Care is a support service working with clinical departments, nursing and departments to deliver the most "state of the art" health care available to patients of BRMC.

- Administration of bronchodilators
- Oxygen therapy
- Chest physical therapy
- Incentive spirometry
- Ventilator and airway management
- Oximetry
- Transcutaneous monitoring
- Incubations
