"Helping You Get the Rest You Deserve"
Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
Today, most sleep disorders can be effectively treated. At Bedford Regional Medical Center's Sleep Disorder Center, the first step is an accurate diagnosis of the problem. Sometimes all that is needed is a discussion session with a sleep specialist. In other cases it is necessary to monitor a patient for one or more nights in order to discover the cause of the disorder. The patient stays in a private, comfortable room in our lab.
Bedford Regional Medical Center's Sleep Disorder Center is affiliated with Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, Indiana. Methodist's Sleep Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. This unique affiliation allows BRMC to offer a wider range of sleep testing and treatment for your patients. A Board Certified Sleep Specialist provides clinical consultations at BRMC.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) equipment and closed circuit television are used to monitor sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity, oxygenation and body movements.
Services Include:
- Consultation and physician treatment by a Board Certified Sleep Medicine Specialist
- Testing and treating ages two years and up
- Sleep Testing - Polysomnography
This is the most important test for the diagnosis of many sleep disorders. It consists of continuous recording of multiple physiological functions during a person's main sleep period. Measurements include sleep itself, breathing, oxygen levels, body movements, and heart patterns. Oftentimes a second night is needed for both initiation and titration of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) or for evaluation of the therapy. - Daytime Sleep Testing
We offer the convenience of daytime testing for nightshift workers. - Sleepiness Assessment - "Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MLST)
MSLT is conducted the following day after a polysomnogram. This test is commonly performed to confirm the diagnosis of Narcolepsy and determine its severity. - Alertness Testing - Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT)
This test is utilized to determine a person's ability to stay awake in difficult situations such as driving on the freeway. Sometimes this test is ordered as a requirement for obtaining or maintaining Pilot and CDL drivers licenses. - A Split-Night CPAP Sleep Study
This is a study where during the first half of the night, a regular polysomnogram is done. If sufficient apneas are seen, the patient is woken halfway through the night, dons a CPAP mask, and for the second half of the night, various levels of CPAP are tried to see if they decrease the number of apneas. - Over Night Oxygenation Study
This test is typically done to determine if oxygen saturation is adequate throughout the night in patients with suspected hypoxemia, such as the hypoxia due to chronic obstructive lung disease. With clinical correlation, the test can be used as a screening test for sleep apnea. This study consists of the continuous recording of oxygen saturation. It can be done on outpatients in their home or on hospital inpatients.
