Today, in keeping with the latest trend toward ensuring patients' comfort, convenience, and reducing the hospital stays, Bedford Regional Medical Center peforms an increasing number of outpatient and inpatient special and surgical procedures. Combined with an always changing and advanced medical/surgical technologies, as always the personal involvement of our local employees always ensures our patients to receive the attention, care and consideration that would always be given to family, neighbors and friends.

Types of Surgery

Surgeries routinely performed include:

  • GENERAL SURGERY, including appendectomies, gallbladder, bowel surgeries, hernia repairs, mastectomy and other breast related procedures, port placement, gastric, nissan fundiplication, and other miscellaneous surgeries.
  • EAR, NOSE AND THROAT SURGERY, including ear tubes, tonsillectomies, adenoidectomy, laryngoscopies, and nasal surgeries.
  • ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES, including examination of esophagus, stomach, lung, bowel, joints and carpal tunnel release.
  • LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERIES, which involves small incisions and use of a scope and video equipment. They include gallbladder, appendix, hernias, tubal ligation, removal of tubes and or ovaries, ovarian cysts, bowel, nissan fundiplication, and exploration of abdomen for diagnostic purposes.
  • OB-GYN SURGERIES, including D&C, tubal ligations, hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, removal of tubes and/or ovaries, including cysts, cesarean section and other miscellaneous surgeries.
  • ORTHOPEDIC SURGERIES, such as joint replacement, partial knee replacement, carpal tunnel release, multiple fractures, acl reconstruction, spinal surgeries, torn rotator cuff, and repair of tendons.
  • THORACIC SURGERY, including labectomies (removal of a lobe of the lung), thoractomy (opening of chest) and thoracoscopy (chest examination with use of a scope).
  • UROLOGICAL PROCEDURES, including vasectomy, cystoscopies, transurethral resection of the prostate, bladder tumors, prostatectomies, bladder suspension and stone removal.
  • SPECIAL PROCEDURES, including blood transfusion, antibiotic infusion, radiological procedures, phlebotomy, paracentesis, thoracentesis and other miscellaneous procedures.
  • VASCULAR SURGERIES, including aneurysm repair, bypass (for peripheral vascular disease), embolectomy, pacemaker and other miscellaneous surgeries.

ANESTHESIOLGY

The Anesthesia Department is an integral part of the surgical team at BRMC. Appropriate laboratory tests and studies will be done to ensure the safest and most suitable anesthesia for the procedure. The type of anesthetic selected will be discussed with the patient to assure full understanding of the procedure and to answer any questions the patient may have. Anesthesia is then carried out using the most modern anesthetic technology and equipment best suited for the individual patient.
