You will register in admissions located at the front entrance of the hospital. Please bring your insurance information.
Upon registering, you will be directed to the waiting room until it is time to prepare you for surgery or your procedure. There will be coffee, rolls, and muffins available for family members.
Approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours prior to your surgery the preoperative nurse will take you to a room where you will be assessed and prepared for surgery.
If needed, you will receive a pre-med prior to surgery to relax you.
THE OPERATING ROOM
The operating room is staffed by a team of highly trained professionals. These employees will be there for you and will be sensitive to your needs and concerns. The operating room is kept as sterile and safe as possible. This is why you will see personnel wearing gowns, masks, hats and eyewear. The operating room team consists of anesthesia personnel, surgeon, scrub nurse, and a circulator.
EQUIPMENT IN THE OPERATING ROOM
The operating room consists of special lighting system located above the surgical bed. The surgical bed will allow us to perform different types of surgeries which require various positions. The anesthesia machine is located at the head of the bed where you anesthesia personnel will be located during your entire procedure. There will be various pieces of specialized equipment in the room to facilitate your surgical procedure.
POSTOPERATIVE CARE
After your surgery you will be taken to the recovery room. This is where you will recover from your anesthesia. You will be closely monitored by the recovery room nurse until your anesthesia wears off. This will be approximately 30 minutes to one hour depending on the type of surgery you had and the anesthetic you received. Once you have stabalized, you wil be taken to your room in the outpatient area or your room on the nursing unit. Special written instructions will be given to you prior to your discharge.
