Bedford Regional Medical Center offers an educational series Red Hot Mamas
Bedford Regional Medical Center has started a new educational series on menopause. The new program, Red Hot Mamas is the nation's largest menopause education program to encourage women to warm up to menopause by learning about this normal life transition and how to develop a personalized plan to optimize their experience of menopause.
The average age of natural menopause is 51.4 years. However, early menopause can occur due to surgical removal to the ovaries, chemotherapy or radiation in the pelvic area.
In 2005, the total estimated number of postmenopausal women worldwide was 477 million.
Possible short-term menopausal changes include hot flashes, sleep changes, mood swings and vaginal dryness. Osteoporosis, urinary problems and changes in the skin and hair may also occur as a result of menopause.
"We're excited that we can offer this educational program to women. Menopause can be a positive life event," says Vanessa Moore, Nurse Practitioner at Bedford Regional Medical Center. "Our mission is to help women take charge of their journey through menopause. Some women sail through menopause without realizing it ever happened. And, some women arenít as lucky. Red Hot MamasĆ helps women understand what to expect at menopause, how to manage its course, and make better and objective health decisions."
